Beef Biryani Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup basmati rice, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup fried onions, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the beef, ginger garlic paste, yogurt, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to coat the beef.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and mushy, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the spiced beef to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
  5. Add the water to the skillet and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through.
  6. Meanwhile, cook the rice according to the package directions.
  7. To assemble the biryani, spread half of the rice in a large, deep pot or baking dish. Top with the beef and tomato mixture. Spread the remaining rice on top. Sprinkle with fried onions and cilantro.
  8. Cover the pot or baking dish and seal tightly with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through.
  10. Let the biryani rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use whole spices instead of ground spices.
  • If you don't have fried onions, you can use 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro.
  • If you don't have basmati rice, you can use any long-grain rice.
  • To make the biryani ahead of time, cook the rice and beef separately. Then, assemble the biryani and bake it in the oven for 30 minutes before serving.

The secret ingredient for biryani is fried onions. They add a depth of flavor and richness that is essential to biryani. You can make fried onions by slicing onions thinly and frying them in oil until they are golden brown and crispy.
