Crispy Calamari Rings

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound cleaned squid, sliced into rings
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions...

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Pat the squid rings dry with paper towels.
  3. Dip the squid rings in the flour mixture, coating them evenly.
  4. Shake off any excess flour.
  5. Heat the oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium heat until it reaches 350 degrees F.
  6. Fry the squid rings in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Drain the squid rings on paper towels.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips:

  • To tenderize the squid, soak it in milk for 30 minutes before frying.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the squid, otherwise it will be tough and chewy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when frying the squid, or the temperature of the oil will drop and the squid will not cook evenly.
  • Serve the squid immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce, cocktail sauce, or lemon wedges.

Enjoy...😊
