Masoor ki Daal Fry With Red chilli Tadka
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ..Masoor dal (red lentils)
- 2 tablespoons.. oil
- 1 teaspoon.. cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon.. turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon.. red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon.. garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon.. hing (asafoetida)
- 1 onions.. finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes..finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- Cilantro.. for garnish
Instructions:-
- Rinse the dal in water until the water runs clear...
- In a pressure cooker, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to crackle...
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and hing. Cook for a minute, stirring constantly...
- Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes...
- Add the tomatoes and cook until softened and mushy, about 5 minutes...
- Add the dal and salt to taste. Stir to combine...
- Close the pressure cooker and cook on high heat for 3 whistles...
- Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes...
- Open the pressure cooker and stir the dal. If it is too thick, add a little water...
- Heat the oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to crackle...
- Add the hing and red chili powder and cook for a minute..stirring constantly...
- Pour the Tadka over the dal and stir to combine...
- Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
Tips:-
- You can also cook the dal in a pot on the stovetop. Just bring the dal to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes.. or until the dal is soft and mushy...
- If you don't have hing, you can substitute 1/4 teaspoon of ground Asafoetida.
- You can add other vegetables to the dal, such as carrots.. potatoes..or peas.
- Serve the dal with a dollop of ghee or yogurt for an extra layer of flavor...
