Scotch Eggs Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 large eggs
- 1 pound sausage meat, casings removed
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh herbs, such as parsley, chives, or thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- Vegetable oil, for deep-frying
Instructions:
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Carefully lower the eggs into the water and cook for 6-7 minutes for a soft-boiled yolk, or 8-9 minutes for a hard-boiled yolk.
- Immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Once the eggs are cool, peel them.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sausage meat, herbs, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Divide the sausage mixture into 4 equal pieces.
- Flatten one of the sausage pieces into an oval shape. Place a peeled egg in the center of the sausage and gently shape the sausage around the egg to enclose it completely.
- Repeat steps 5-6 with the remaining sausage and eggs.
- In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten egg, and bread crumbs.
- Roll each scotch egg in the flour, then the beaten egg, and then the bread crumbs.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan or deep fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Fry the scotch eggs for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
Tips:
- For a more flavorful scotch egg, you can add other ingredients to the sausage mixture, such as cheese, chopped vegetables, or spices.
- If you don't have a deep fryer, you can bake the scotch eggs instead. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and bake the scotch eggs for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve the scotch eggs with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, or piccalilli.
Enjoy...😊
